Basement Jaxx's recent album, Scars, was originally conceived as a double album, with one disc designed as an outlet for the band's customary festival-pleasing floor-filling anthems and the other taking on a more unexpected, ambient persona. Perhaps predictably, Scars turned out to be a far leaner affair than this original idea might have led to, leaving a hefty portion of 'soundscape' left over. So here it is, presented as Zephyr, a collection of far more experimental, textural works than you'd expect from Basement Jaxx, although the appetite for star guests remains in place: that giant of Ethiopian music Mulatu Astatke is on hand, as is New York jazz singer Jose James.

"Dub-jazzy tango fused cinematic sounds (with organic feel) finally find breathing space in Greece. Cayetano stands high on a small list of local innovators. "
Thirteen new tracks are found in Cayetano's latest album. A glance at Argentina's tango club, London's smoky pubs, Barcelona's underground suburb vibe and the spirit of Parisian street cafes, could best describe the cinematic aesthetic of this album.
Piano, trumpet, classic guitars, electronic sounds and ethereal vocals worked together, in order to create this multicoloured sound puzzle.
The album opens beautifully with "Mathematical sorrow", where Latin-American influences are visibly clear and continues with the use of the melodica in the next track, "Sweet Poke", which activates our wishful thinking. The amazing voice of Themis Veleni in "Las Sirenas" leads our thoughts to the most touching moments of Pedro Almodovar. The already known theme of "Stretto Cafe '06" by Giorgos Stavrianos, is given here with a different dynamic and an almost political sense, honouring the voice of Subcomandante Marcos.
On the other side, "Stay" consists a little path to the more sensitive side of its creator. In "Red Winter I" and "Red Winter II", the mastery piano melody could rivet any possible audience. "After All" combines bossa nova to the Mexican ranchera, whereas "Spiritual Sun" and "Focused" play games with some really funky grooves. "La Poupee" and "Une histoire Si Petite", supported by the brilliant performance of Themis Veleni, apart from their theatrical style are kind of sexy as well.
With this first release, Sala Sonora Records manages to make clear its presence in the music field, not only the Greek one but also abroad, receiving some very positive comments by several foreign radio stations and Press. Through "Focused", Sala Sonora aims to define its artistic point of view.

The Intergalactic Slapstick is the second album from Liquid Stranger a prolific artist who has honed and developed his signature sound since the release of his debut The Invisible Conquest (Interchill 2007). This is the new and outstanding album from the Cosmic Orient collective, an accumulation of artists who lay their focus on electronic vibes paired with oriental coloring. Head behind the project is Frankfurt/Main based producer and DJ Herb T who invited the convincing artists Catenia Quentin (vocalist), Abdurraham Kцse (percussionist), Mercedes (vocalist), Dana Golombek (vocalist), Markie J., Aaron Gibbs and Nemesis to create a mixture of western music ideas with oriental elements like vocal parts, harmonics, instruments and percussions in a completely fascinating and new get-together.
Herb T discovered his passion for music in his early childhood what made him handling with the styles Soul, Funk, RnB, Jazz and Reggae as a DJ. In the middle of the nineties he discovered oriental music, especially Arabian and Indian sounds and developed his very specific sound he is realizing constantly with his Cosmic Orient project he founded in 2001. Their first compilation, named ”Eastern Electronics” was released in 2002 which the first album on BlueFrameRec., ”Cosmic Orient, followed in 2006. In 2009 it is time to release the second album ”Black Flame”.
With the new album Herb T, who was inspired by the Asian Underground from London, and his international artist colllective are fusing downbeat, trip hop, ambient and dub to an anbsolutely unique mixture of lounge music with a razor

The long awaited Third Ear Audio album finally drops. A collaboration between Celli Earthling Firmi and Nick Doof Barber, it successfully marries their influences and styles to create a perfect blend of space, bass and beats, with an added dose of playful mischief thrown in for good luck! The album is very much a dub sandwich, opening with two lounge pieces, full of seductive synths and sultry sounds, designed for sofa surfing smoking sessions. The middle tracks 'the meat of the album' are a trio of dubwise delights: all deep skanks, heavy basslines and reggae riddims, peppered with quirky samples and produced immaculately. The final four are perhaps more what you would expect from this dastardly duo, as they flirt with, but do not commit to, the trance world, containing sunkissed elements of progressive and psy, as well as touches of breaks, house and minimal techno. Finished several years ago, this album seemingly managed to bankrupt every label it touched until now, with the previous 2 prospective homes going belly up just before release. Thankfully it has finally seen the light of day, as it a perfect summer album.

A smoking selection of tracks, hand picked by Crazy Baldhead from Dubmission Records for your dubbing delectation. The collection opens with International Observer adding rootical vibes to Pitch Black, and Warp Technique updating a classic Scientist bassline with some psychedelic twists. Then ambient legends Sounds from the Ground present a dub straight from the chiller cabinet, with added licks courtesy of the maestro Gaudi. Third Ear Audio are otherwise known as Earthling and Doof, and this track is a tasty sampler from their debut album, due out July '09. They are followed by Alucidnation, who has the rare honour of having played at every Big Chill festival since they began, and Japan's experimental ambient producer, Metalob. Dubrovnik is a mainstay in the modern Bristol music scene, having worked with everyone from SmithandMighty to Babyhead, and this track is taken from his last album. Equally, Green Monitor are household names in Cork, Ireland, where their dub, roots, world crossover has wowed many an audience. Rarely in the electronic music world nowadays does an album come along that is so ground breaking and earth shattering, it renews the listener with a second wind of inspiration, enthusiasm, and vitality. And when it does, the amount of mediocrity one needs to sift through to discover it requires a metal detector and a sturdy mental shovel. However, this album, 'My Little Forest', by Israeli producer and virtuoso Argaman, is the exception to this and so many other perceived rules. Having been playing and composing orchestral and classical music since the age of 6, by the time he reached adulthood, his highly sought after scores were being featured in box office films. Then, Argaman was introduced to electronic music, which completely distorted and revamped his perceptions. His debut project album, 'My Little Forest', encapsulates a life of musical composition and arrangement which spans both decades and genres. This cornucopia of sound and style draws from a virtual buffet of instruments, both classical and digital, whose genre influences draw from IDM, dub, ambient and the classical training he received as a child. 'My Little Forest' is nigh indescribable using verbal vernacular. Although an attempt has been made to do so below, the best recommendation the reviewer can offer is to listen to yourself and learn why words simply don't do this ten track masterpiece of art justice. Afterwards, you will be telling your friends all about this amazing artist project as excitedly and kiddishly as the reviewer is as well.

Vlastur started his journey into music as a Bass player. Back in the mid-80's, he was a founding member of the Cohash Funk, an underground Funk group. In 1998 alongside Frequency Freak, fellow Cohash funk guitarist and Spiris, a dubby drummer, formed 'Apeuthias Syndesi' now known as Direct Connection, a dub experimental laboratory. They released 'Dub Infection' in 2007. Even though he started as a Bassist in Direct Connection, he is now the FX Sound Engineer of the band. In the meanwhile he was also working as a session musician with various artists and bands. In 2004 he teamed up with Palyrria an ethnic-electronica band and in 2005 recorded 'Methexy' with them and has played in many of their gigs. The 'InterAxion Dub ' project is the first full length work of Vlastur. Eleven previously unreleased tracks influenced by all his beloved sounds from PsyDub to Dubstep through Ambient, Drum n Bass and Traditional Mediterranian sounds.

Rhythm, Sound and Movement is a collection of remixes of tracks from Pitch Black's Rude Mechanicals album, which, reflecting the duo's wide ranging tastes and styles, encompasses nearly every genre of electronica and dance music there is. The compilation kicks off with two heavily dubwise numbers from former Thomspon Twin, International Observer, and Melbourne's deadly duo, Deep Fried Dub. England's Mistrust adds breaks to the mix, which Fold and Horace then throw into the blender with their dubstep meets drum'n'bass reduction of Bird Soul. Subtone gets us back on track with his techstep mix of taut beats and restrained funk, and Heavyweight Dub Champion's Patch's bass laden beats prepare the ground nicely for psy star Bluetech's electro dub version of South of the Line. Neon Stereo takes us out onto the dancefloor with some tight tech house grooves and Johhny Hooves keeps us there by dropping Bukem style atmospheric drum'n'bass. Kerretta blow the whole thing out of the water with an amazingly indescribable remix ' labels like post rock and shoegaze don't do them any justice at all, while sublime, stunning and cinematic possibly do. Poker Flat's Simon Flower carries on this blissful theme with his floating remix, while Rob's is more akin to drowning! Thankfully Groove Yantra saves us from the murky depths with their upbeat world beats, and Friends Electric send us back into orbit, blending pulsating beats with a growling bassline. All in all, a worthy addition to the Pitch Black cannon, similar to their previous remix collection, Frequencies Fall, in it's eclectic ness, with some tracks made for the dancefloor, some for the living room, and some for the bedroom;-) Rhythm, Sound and Movement indeed.

Celtic Cross was born out of a concept album I wanted to produce that illustrated the musical esoteric and cultural correspondences between ancient Celtic culture and ancient Indian culture, this was soon overtaken with some more diverse influences including a potent tab of Californian LSD that went by the same name!
I enlisted the help of a small army of contributors, mainly from the hub of my then recording studio Butterfly on Brixton Road, South London. This was the studio and nexus that captured the zeitgeist of the moment and become the mothership that spawned a thousand imitations.
Simon Posford, the legend that he is now, was just establishing a name as Hallucinogen and was former head engineer at Butterfly. He was joined by the current in house head honcho, Ott; a formidable partnership that was brilliantly augmented by Orb helmsman mixer Greg Hunter, a veteran of many productions with myself.
I have been devotedly assisted by junior rising stars Natalie, Sheldon, Carrie and Junior and helped by guitar maestro Saul from the band James; having just finished recording their album seven.
At the time, we had done so many mixes and remixes we couldn't fit them all on the album. So for the first time we present the whole mother load of original mixes, with the whole shabongel remastered loving as well!
Hicksville has stood the test of time admirably, still sounding fresh and unique with a beautiful production to boot! It's still heard and requested at festivals and parties around the world.

Tribal Matrix 2 further explores the mid-eastern/electronic fusion of Vol.1, the most popular Dakini release since 2000's classic Skydancing compilation. Similarly inspired by the innovative stylings of Tokyo's tribal-fusion bellydance scene, TM2 offers up a selection of fresh, focused tracks designed to appeal to djs as much as bellydancers. If Vol. 1 was exploring the sound, Vol. 2 has definitely found it, a mesmerising mix of saz and synths, breakbeats and bukkas, daf drumming and dub mixing.
Featuring 100% all-new and exclusive tracks, Tribal Matrix 2 collects work from the pioneers of ethnodelic fusion. Dakini regular Makyo, who has been working in Indo-Arab dub since the early '90s, checks in with two new tracks: the dramatic opener, "Malfouf", fuses a classic Egyptian rhythm with soaring electric violin and vocals, and some serious sub that will destroy smaller speakers. "Parandeh" features the bendir rhythms of North Africa wed to fuzzy acid breaks and a sampledelic flight over Morocco.
Turkish maestro Omar Faruk Tekbilek, who's been remixed by everyone from Makyo to Shulman, sees two more remixes from top producers: Kaya Project (Interchill) takes the moody "Toros" and adds his trademark sweeping strings and breaks to the original's ney flute and saz to create a beautiful downtempo trip; Greg Hunter, known for his work with The Orb and Subsurfing, takes "Dulger" and turns it inside out, with rippling dub effects and a Jah Wobble-esque bassline, all rippling vocals and flutes floating towards the vanishing point. Greg Hunter also turns up in his Dubsahara guise, with the piece "Zentropy", recorded in a Cairo hotel room, with some searing solos on saz and kanoon that will take your breath away.
San Francisco talents Jef Stott and Drumspyder both appear with new material. Jef Stott, already known to Dakini fans for his Lumin project, follows up his well-received solo debut on Six Degrees Records with a gorgeous track in 10-beat rhythm; Jef's acoustic oud playing, accompanied by ney flute, flows through a traditional melody while skittering reks and deep bass propel the track to its climax. Drumspyder, an accomplished percussionist on all sorts of mid-eastern drums, lays down two absolutely phat and funky trax here: both "Dunanwi", named for the Egyptian god, and "Kalypso", based on a Persian Gulf rhythm, feature live drumming on darbukka & frame drums over breaks that just cut through a dance floor. (Look for a Drumspyder full-length release on Dakini later in 2009.)
Tokyo band Rain In Eden, known for their dedication to obscure Silk Road instruments, preview two tracks from the sessions for their forthcoming album; both are almost totally acoustic, start slow, and then build to a climax of sufi-spinning ecstacy. Also based in Tokyo, Taichi Masuda turns in trippy soundscape that sound like some Saharan campfire jam under the stars after the majoun kicks in. From Canada, Taal Fiza's "Infosphere" features the Indian instrument known as the hang, which is like a steel drum that looks like an upside-down UFO, while Adham Shaikh -- who has no peer when it comes to live/electronic fusion -- turns in an epic slow-burning piece to close out the album, nearly 14-minutes of drum-pulse hypnosis.

Finished with a quartet of EPs teasing its arrival, UK producer Martin Dawson, AKA King Roc, has finally announced the release of his debut album later this year.
For many, of course, Roc is one-half of Two Armadillos with Giles Smith of Secretsundaze, but there is little of the deep house that the duo produces on this solo record, entitled Chapters. Instead, the album sees Dawson experimenting with genres like trip-hop, ambient and chillout in much the same way that he did on his four releases on Mutual Society last year.
Many of the same track titles from those EPs are to be found on Chapters, but the tracks are the same in name only: Dawson's has twisted each original into different forms for the album release, with "trip-hop transformed into a beautiful vocal number, [and] techno into lush, beatless cinematics" for example. The result is an album, full of strings, melody and emotion.

A real reggae legend Bob Marley still attracts many music producers and his songs are very often subject to various remixes and special sets. Roots Rock Remixed is one of them - enriched by Bombay Dub Orchestra, Fort Knox and other familiar names. This is a really nice music for relaxation and funky mood and you shouldn’t miss it.
The first officially sanctioned Bob Marley & The Wailers remix album ‘Roots, Rock, Remixed’ is out Monday and features some well known tracks from the Lee Perry produced Black Ark days given a respectful reworking by some notable current producers. Out via Quango, the best remixes come from Afrodisiac Sound System, Yes King (Rhys Adams & Mark Rae), Trio Elétrico (Boozoo Bajou), Fort Knox Five, King Kooba, DJ Spooky and a great remix of ‘400 years’ by Jimpster. Robert “Bob” Nesta Marley OM (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, guitarist, and activist. He is the most widely known performer of reggae music. A faithful Rastafari, Marley is regarded by many as a prophet of the religion. Marley is best known for his reggae songs, which include the hits “I Shot the Sheriff”, “No Woman, No Cry”, “Three Little Birds”, “Exodus”, “Could You Be Loved”, “Jammin”, “Redemption Song”, and “One Love”. His posthumous compilation album Legend (1984) is the best-selling reggae album ever, with sales of more than 12 million copies.

Brother Culture is London born of African/Celtic background. He started to MC in 1983 for the 'Jah Revelation Muzik' sound system and at that time, they were one of the most prominent 'Roots' sound systems in the UK. Based in Brixton, BC was at the centre of the UK MC explosion that saw many homegrown 'reggae' arsist come to the scene. By 1985, BC was touring in Jamaica, USA, Canada and Trinidad as part of the twelve Tribes Of Israel rasta brotherhood. On returning to UK after some time in the States, BC started to MC at a place called the 'Dub Club' in London, here he made many new associations on the UK Dub/Roots circuit, this led to his first collaboration with Adrian Sherwood. 'Frankinstein' was wriiten and performed by BC and legendary 'Little Roy'. Through the 1990s as the music scene and the UK (roots) MC scene began to change, BC came into contact with more dub driven producers and sounds such as: Manasseh, Mad Proffersor, Mungos Hi Fi etc. This led to collaborations such as 'Mungos Hi Fi meets Brother Culture' (Dubhead 2002), Foundation Rockers (twlight dub sound )... In 2002 BC met Youth, it was Youth who suggested an album with Nick Manasseh as he saw a certain magic when the two got together. By now, BC had rooted himself in a new order of understanding that had manifested works such as Kumba Mela Experiment's 'Peace Is Love' (Liquid Sound 2002). Manasseh and BC got together and worked on the tunes and Isis is the result. It is a journey of love and change, it is UK roots / with all the spice and variety of Urban existance. It attempts to bring the grit of the 80s sound systen era with the multi - path truth of life today... peace is Isis (if Isis is love )?
